Welcome Killian Families! I am Mrs. Sanchez and have been part of the Killian family since the Fall of ’96. My teaching career began six years before I arrived at Killian at a small laboratory demonstration school on the campus of Whittier College; The Broadoak’s School of Whittier College. At Broadoaks I worked in the preschool for three of my undergraduate years and then moved up to Kindergarten for the next three years while I finished by Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and earned my Master’s Degree in Education.
It was here that my understanding and belief that children learn best by being active participants in their learning, while teacher serves as the facilitator was instilled. Through my Cotsen Fellowship that I have had the privilege to participate in for two years, ’08-09 & ’09-’10 this belief has been reaffirmed and deepened.
My years at Killian have been primarily spent in the primary grades: Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First Grade, Kindergarten/First grade combination classes, and one year in Sixth grade. I am very fortunate to have taught for the last 19 years at Killian and look forward to many more years! Aside from my love of teaching and I also love being a mom to my two young children; both of which are Killian cougars too!!
