Killian Elementary School Helps Local Girl Scout Go For Gold

Killian Elementary School Principal, Jason Gass, a long-time supporter of the Rowland Heights Girl Scouts, was supportive in allowing a local Girl Scout work on her Gold Award entitled T.A.P.S – Toys for Adoptable Pets. Sarah Eldredge, Senior Girl Scout from Rowland Heights Girl Scout Troop #9084, held a donation drive in early February for the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A.

The donation drive was very successful largely due to the enthusiasm from the parents, students and faculty supporting the cause. The families at Killian Elementary came through in a huge way. The I.V.H.S. had a wish list and the donation drive helped to fulfill their wish. In return, from the big hearts of the Killian family, boxes were full of old and new toys, blankets, towels, food and other items.

Alma Monreal, Office Manager at Killian Elementary, was instrumental and resourceful in helping Sarah with her proposal as well as her executing the drive. Mary Ellen Perez, a long-time Rowland Girl Scout Leader, didn’t hesitate to show her enthusiastic support for the cause.

The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the highest achievement and recognition a Girl Scout can earn within the Girl Scouts of USA serving her community. Often compared to the Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, this journey to earn such a prestigious award teaches the Scout to gain leadership and time management skills in planning and implementing a large-scale project that engages others and has a lasting and sustainable impact for her community. Sarah will utilize these tools throughout her daily actions, career and life.
